The Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup starts in Minsk on Friday. Medals will be competed for both in individual all-around and in group exercises, where Belarus will be represented by Anna Shvaiba, Lolita Matskevich, Diana Misyuchenko, Anastasia Rybakova and Anna Gaidukevich. Our team is one of the youngest in the tournament.

Anna Shvaiba

Minsk resident Anna Shvaiba is now 18 years old. She devoted 14 of them to gymnastics. The girl grew up in sports family– her father Pavel Shvaiba plays in the national championships in mini-football and beach soccer. I got into rhythmic gymnastics by accident:

– First, my grandfather brought me to artistic gymnastics. We trained for one day, and when we returned home, we met dad. He said that he had found a rhythmic gymnastics section and suggested we try it. I liked it. I remember when I took third place at a school competition for the first time, I was delighted - I became one of the few girls who got on the podium. For now, the most important award for me is gold in the group exercise at the 2015 European Championships.

Gymnastics is a sport in which you need to strictly monitor your form and weight. Despite this, one of Anya Shvaib’s main hobbies is cooking:

– I really like to cook. For example, meat or fish, baked goods. Of course, in winter I have to limit myself more, but in spring and summer, when we are actively training, sometimes I can allow myself something sweet, although I try to eat right. I cook more often on weekends, so I treat everyone who is at home: my parents, sister, grandparents.

Anastasia Rybakova

Nastya Rybakova is also 18 years old. She was born in Grodno, and got into sports almost immediately after birth:

– My mother is a rhythmic gymnastics coach, so I was in the gym with her almost from the cradle, and at the age of three I started doing this sport myself. Mom was my first coach. Now at home we also talk about gymnastics, discuss training, but not often - there should be variety.

Anastasia Rybakova is a titled athlete. Among her most valuable awards are gold and silver at the 2015 European Championships in the group exercise, as well as silver and bronze at the 2014 European Championships in individual competitions. She is not going to stop there: the 2nd European Games in Minsk and the main start of the four-year period – the Olympics in Tokyo – are ahead. The girl's hobbies are unusual:

– I recently got hooked on Korean TV series. I liked “I am not a robot”, “Scarlet Hearts of Koryo”, “Between Two Worlds”. In principle, I like cinema and everything connected with it. I also like to draw and do scrapbooking – designing diaries and other things.

Lolita Matskevich

Lolita is one of the youngest girls on our team in the group exercise. Her grandfather was a master of sports of the USSR in artistic gymnastics, and dad was involved in cycling. True, Lolita’s family did not plan for the girl to also become an athlete:

“When I was five years old, I was sent to gymnastics to improve my gait—I raked with my left leg. As my mother says, it’s been like this for 11 years and we’ve been trying to straighten it out. I was almost immediately drawn into rhythmic gymnastics. I remember my first performance at the Baby Cup very well. We performed with my friend Ksyusha, and I was a monkey. We had baskets of bananas, and we had to eat them right during the performance. Two years ago I was selected to the youth team in a group exercise, and then we took second place at the European Championships, and last year I was already promoted to the senior team.

Now Lolita has entered the 11th grade. He says there are no problems with studying: gymnasts have individual training:

– We are given sheets of assignments for the entire quarter. We complete them and pass them, and if we need to write some kind of test, we come to school. IN free time I'm drawing. Two years ago, my coach gave me a sketchbook, and I really enjoyed drawing with a black pen on white sheets of paper. In general, drawing is addictive: once they gave me a painting by numbers with the image of a horse, I started to draw it, but abandoned it due to lack of time, and as soon as my vacation began, I finished it in three hours.

Diana Misyuchenko

Diana Misyuchenko is 16 years old. She came to gymnastics later than the rest of the girls on the team - at the age of 7:

“My parents and I were just looking for something to keep me occupied.” I really wanted to sculpt with clay, and my mother’s friend saw an advertisement at the bus stop about recruitment for rhythmic gymnastics. At first I didn’t quite understand what it was, but my parents suggested I try it and I stayed there. At first I didn’t really like it: I trained with little girls. And then, when I was transferred to an older group, where we started doing some elements, I got involved.

In her free time, Diana draws, walks with friends and reads.

Anna Gaidukevich

Now 17-year-old Anya Gaidukevich’s mother brought her to gymnastics, having also seen an advertisement for enrollment in the section. Then the girl didn’t know what it was, but new look I liked the sport right away. It was fun to be around other kids and train. She has known many of the gymnasts with whom she now performs together since childhood. He assures that the girls’ relationships, despite all the stereotypes that female friendships don’t exist, are good—they support each other and always try to help. In her free time, Anya prefers to relax actively - maybe, for example, meeting with friends or riding a bike.

Despite her young age, the gymnast has many awards. Among them are medals from the World Cup stages and gold from the World Gymnasium. The girl will have a chance to add to her collection this weekend. Anna Gaidukevich says about her goals for the home stage of the World Cup:

- Of course, there is excitement, because we will be performing at home, and this adds responsibility. Now there are a lot of very strong teams, but I try not to think about competitors. First of all, we need to overcome ourselves. We'll show you everything we've prepared and try to do it well.
